FROM IDEA TO REALITY: THE EVOLUTION OF WESTBURY AREA IMPROVEMENT CORPORATION
The Westbury Civic Club had been serving the needs of the 5,000 single family residences since 1956. Realizing that a neighborhood is more than just the homes within it, a non profit was started in 1991 to improve the area around Westbury High School; it would become the WAIC. It brings together representatives from the business, the schools, the non profits, the apartment complexes, the civic clubs, and the churches in the Westbury area. In 2005, the WCC and the WAIC came together to become a recognized SuperNeighbrhood in the City of Houston.
